Where to Have Lunch With Colleagues in Copenhagen in 2026: 11 Places

Eleven places for a quick lunch, a booked team table or a Danish lunch with something to celebrate.

TL;DR

With under an hour and up to four colleagues, try Gasoline Grill Carlsberg Byen for a counter lunch or Atelier September for a café meal. For a booked team lunch, try Café Wilder. Save Restaurant Palægade for a Danish lunch with time for another round.

A lunch for two can begin at the counter. Add four colleagues and you need chairs together, time for six orders and a way to pay before the first person has to leave. At that size, a little planning does more for lunch than a longer menu.

Choose the room by the time you can give it. The eleven places below run from a quick café or counter lunch to a booked Christianshavn table and a Danish frokost that can carry you into the afternoon.

How Long Has the Team Got?

A work lunch in Copenhagen comes in three sizes. The quick one is two to four people and under an hour: you need somewhere you can walk into and order at once. The ordinary team lunch is five to eight people and about an hour: you need a booked table and a kitchen that serves at noon. The occasion is a leaving do, a project that shipped or a new colleague's first week: you need a long table, two hours and a menu built for sharing, often with a snaps.

Our view is that the classic Danish frokost belongs to the third kind. It is the best lunch in the city when there is something to mark. On an ordinary Tuesday it asks for more time and more planning than most teams have, so the guide starts with the quick lunch and works up.

Where Can Two to Four Colleagues Walk In for a Quick Lunch?

1. Atelier September, Kronprinsessegade

For two or three people from an office near Kongens Have, Atelier September is the light end of lunch. Frederik Bille Brahe opened the first café in a former gallery on Gothersgade in 2013; the café at Kronprinsessegade 62 is open on weekdays from 7:30. The undated menu lists the signature avocadomad on rye bread for 105 kroner or a Comté omelette with sourdough for 125. The kitchen closes at 15:00. It is a café, not a dining room, so it suits a small group that will share a table rather than a team of six.

2. Bistro Royal, Kongens Nytorv

Close to Strøget, Bistro Royal at Kongens Nytorv 26 is Madklubben's all-day bistro, built on French and Danish classics and open from 8:00 on weekdays. Its September 2025 reopening was billed as a new chapter for a Copenhagen classic, and the formula is a classic French bistro with a Copenhagen twist. Its lunch menu for the Christmas season has toast Skagen with hand-peeled prawns and trout roe for 185 kroner, a Caesar salad with chicken for 175, a breaded fish fillet on rye bread with remoulade for 165, and confit de canard with glazed beetroot for 225. The kitchen runs from 8:00 to 22:00 on weekdays.

3. Gasoline Grill Carlsberg Byen

In the old brewery quarter at Bryggernes Plads 1, Gasoline Grill Carlsberg Byen takes no reservations, has ample seating indoors and outside, and opens every day from 11:00 until it sells out. That makes it an easy walk-over for three or four people at noon. The room was one of our first two sit-down restaurants, opened in 2019 after three years of take-away only, and its large counter lets diners and cooks talk across it.

The routine behind the burgers is simple enough to teach. In March 2026 founder Klaus Wittrup gave the members' club The Hungries a masterclass behind the grill: the members prepped the meat, toasted the buns, grilled the patties and mixed their own Gasoline sauce. At Carlsberg Byen, our Cheeseburger, "The Benchmark", is beef ground in-house daily with cheddar, red onion, pickles and Gasoline Grill Sauce for 110 kroner, with a second patty for 35 kroner more, and a colleague who skips meat can take the portobello Green Burger at 100. The combo with fries and a drink starts at 155 kroner, so a round for three comes to 465 kroner or more. If a table matters more than the food, book elsewhere: the seats are first come, first served.

Where Should Five to Eight Colleagues Book a Table?

4. Café Wilder, Christianshavn

On a corner of Wildersgade, Café Wilder calls itself an everyday restaurant, a French bistro with Danish common sense, and that describes a team lunch well. Its story starts in 1984, when Christianshavn was all brown pubs and a meal with your beer was hard to find, and the old zinc bar and Lars Helweg's painting of a lady with bottles still set the mood. The kitchen is tiny and makes as much as it can from scratch. The lunch kitchen runs Monday to Friday from 12:00 to 15:30. From the lunch menu, French onion soup with grilled cheese croutons costs 129 kroner and a tartine of wild mushrooms and crème crue on toasted brioche 169. For a longer lunch, the three-course menu of blinis, vol-au-vent with sweetbreads and a chocolate cake is 495 kroner. Book a table for anything over four.

5. Bistro Boheme, Esplanaden

Near the offices around Esplanaden and Kastellet, Bistro Boheme at Esplanaden 8 serves a French and Danish lunch Monday to Saturday from 11:30 to 15:00. The man behind it, Per Thøstesen, went to France to work for Paul Bocuse, and the lunch menu shows it: the truffle soup with foie gras, baked in pastry and marked VGE 1975 at 425 kroner, points to the soup Bocuse created for the Élysée in February 1975. For an ordinary order, the menu runs from an omelette with ham and Comté at 155 kroner to classic biksemad at 225, and on to pariserbøf of minced beef tenderloin at 285. Four bistro of the year titles from Den Danske Spiseguide and a room furnished with finds from French flea markets are why it suits a team lunch with a client at the table. Book online.

Which Smørrebrød Houses Suit a Long Lunch That Marks Something?

6. Restaurant Palægade

For a leaving do, start with Restaurant Palægade, which opened in 2016 with the stated aim of making the best smørrebrød in Denmark, with rye bread, remoulade and pickles made in-house. Fire hit the rooms in early 2020, and the owners of formel B rebuilt the restaurant. Lunch is served every day from 11:30, with last arrival at 14:45. The three-course frokost of fried plaice with remoulade, pariserbøf and a dessert from the trolley costs 395 kroner, and that joiner-built trolley in dark walnut, filled only by the house pastry chefs, gives a leaving lunch its ending. À la carte, the Vadouvan curried herring with fried egg, apple and capers is 130. The roast beef smørrebrød pairs horseradish and crisp onion with remoulade and pickled cucumber. Groups book by email, a private wing seats up to 46, and a leaving lunch here needs booking well ahead.

7. Restaurant Sankt Annæ

Restaurant Sankt Annæ dates from 1894 and sits a short walk from Amalienborg at Sankt Annæ Plads 12, with starched cloths and blue-fluted porcelain. It opens Tuesday to Saturday from 11:00, and bookings normally run for two hours, which tells you what kind of lunch this is. For more than eight people, ring rather than book online. The big cold table, for at least ten people at 875 kroner each, runs from curried herring and butter-fried plaice to roast pork with red cabbage and lamb meatballs. In December it also opens on Mondays.

8. Told & Snaps

At Toldbodgade 2, by Nyhavn, Told & Snaps has served smørrebrød since 2000 in a high cellar with white cloths, tall panelling and well-known Danish faces on the walls. It opens for lunch, every day from 11:30, with the kitchen closing at 15:30 from Sunday to Thursday and at 16:00 on Friday and Saturday. The menu is classic: hand-peeled prawns with homemade mayonnaise, aged herring, Ruth's spiced herring from Christiansø, and a butter-fried pariserbøf with freshly grated horseradish, with house snaps from walnut to horseradish made on an organic base. One rule matters for teams: the rooms take parties of up to 56, but the restaurant does not split bills for parties of more than six, so agree who pays before you sit down.

9. Kanal Cafeen

Across the canal from Christiansborg at Frederiksholms Kanal 18, Kanal Cafeen traces its start to 1852, when, as the story goes, Christian VIII's former chef took a tavern licence in place of a pension. The cellar survived the 1960s drive against cellar taverns because a friendly official accepted a hole cut in the ceiling of the inner room as its legal height, and the hole is still there. Members of parliament eat here, which makes it a natural lunch for anyone working around Slotsholmen. Its speciality is boiled pickled herring to a house recipe, and the Kanal platter brings five kinds of herring, warm plaice with prawns and asparagus, and smoked Bornholm salmon. The kitchen serves Monday to Saturday from 11:30 to 16:00 and takes groups of up to 80 to 100 people, so it can hold the whole department.

10. Christianshavns Færgecafé

Back on Christianshavn, at Strandgade 50, Christianshavns Færgecafé has been open for more than 150 years and keeps its half-timbering, crooked doors and uneven floors. Under the owners who arrived in 2013 it pickles, braises and makes its own snaps, with more than 30 herb and fruit versions on the card, and it serves lunch every day from 11:30 to 15:30. For a group that does not want to negotiate a long order, the smørrebrød menu of two pieces chosen by the kitchen plus the day's dessert costs 349 kroner per person and is ordered by the whole table. À la carte, the house curried herring with apple and shallot cream is 119 kroner, and the green pieces, such as kartoffelmad with smoked cheese cream, can always be made vegetarian. If the occasion wants its own room, the restaurant's ferry, built in 1880 as Stockholm's first fire boat, lies in Wilders Kanal and holds up to 62 people.

11. Barr

For a Friday lunch that is allowed to run long, Barr sits on the harbour at Strandgade 93 on Christianshavn, in a historic warehouse. Its name is the Old Norse word for barley, and it describes its cooking as rooted in the cultures of the North Sea. Lunch is served Friday to Sunday from 12:00, not earlier in the week, so plan it as the end-of-week lunch. From the lunch menu, the "Wiener Art" schnitzel of free-range pork with anchovy butter sauce and cucumber salad costs 325 kroner, and a three-course lunch for the whole table, from an autumn salad of steamed pumpkin through that schnitzel to milk ice cream with pine, is 545 kroner per person, with vegetarian or pescatarian options.

What If Eight People Have Only 45 Minutes?

Eight people and 45 minutes is tight. If lunch has to happen at a table, ask the restaurant in advance whether it can take the order ahead and serve everyone in time. Otherwise arrange a pick-up and eat together back at the office. A tasting menu or a queue at a small café gives you no control over the clock.

Can You Pre-Order Gasoline Grill for a Team Lunch?

Yes, for pick-up. Gasoline Grill takes pre-orders only through the Gasoline Grill app, and you collect the food from the restaurant. On 3 November 2026 the Carlsberg Byen pick-up menu showed pre-orders available from 11:00 to 20:00. Tables cannot be reserved.

For a team order, one person can put the whole round in the app and collect it at Bryggernes Plads 1. Two details help with a group: our pick-up menu has an allergen section, so a colleague's allergy can be checked before anyone orders, and hot chicken nuggets from 75 kroner, or regular fries at 40 kroner a portion, give the table something to share. Gasoline Grill closes when it sells out, so place a large order before the lunch rush.

Count Heads, Then Choose

Before anyone suggests a restaurant, ask two things: how many are coming, and when does the first person need to be back? Two to four with under an hour: walk in at a counter. Five to eight with an hour: book a table today, not at 11:55. A reason to celebrate and the afternoon to do it: book the smørrebrød house, and agree on the bill before the snaps arrives.

Frequently asked questions

Which Copenhagen restaurants can seat a large work lunch?

Kanal Cafeen lists space for groups of 80 to 100 at lunch. Restaurant Sankt Annæ asks groups of more than eight to ring.

Can we split the bill at a work lunch in Copenhagen?

Ask before you sit down. Told & Snaps does not split bills for parties of more than six. Christianshavns Færgecafé's smørrebrød menu at 349 kroner per person must be ordered by the whole table, which keeps the sums simple.

Where can vegetarian colleagues eat well at lunch?

Christianshavns Færgecafé can always make its green smørrebrød vegetarian, and Barr offers a vegetarian version of its three-course lunch. At Gasoline Grill we serve the Green Burger and the Matr Burger.

How much does a work lunch in Copenhagen cost?

Avocadomad at Atelier September costs 105 kroner and a Gasoline Grill combo starts at 155. A set lunch is 395 kroner at Restaurant Palægade and 545 at Barr, before drinks.
